Robin (Mary-Louise Parker) suffers from an incurable disease and has a short time to live. To escape reality, she decides to embark on a journey to Los Angeles. Jane (Whoopi Goldberg), who has always wanted to be a singer but never got the chance, becomes Robin's chauffeur and joins her on her journey.Holly (Drew Barrymore) is Jane's best friend. After an argument with her boyfriend, Holly injures him and accidentally causes his death. With a human life on her back, Holly chooses to travel far away with Robin and her group, and on the bumpy ride, a solid friendship develops between the three women. As Robin becomes increasingly ill, she is fortunate that she is not alone when she reaches the end of her life.
