Michael Douglas plays William Foster, an engineer at a military industrial complex who is depressed after being fired. Uninvited to his young daughter's birthday due to a divorce, and coincidentally stuck in traffic, he abandons his car and walks into a grocery store to get some change for a phone call, but he is given a hard time, and he manipulates a softball bat and smashes the store. While resting in the park, he got into a fight with a hoodlum, and in a fast-food restaurant, he drew the pistol he had seized from the hoodlum and fired it, at which point he lost control of the situation. Finally, facing the muzzle of a retired police officer, he can't help but ask himself, “Am I a bad guy?”
