Harry (Woody Allen) is a talented and famous writer who has been leading a fractured and disorganized life due to his neurotic and overly crazy nature. He writes about the people around him and what happens around him in his novels, and publishes his love life with multiple women in novels as well, and as a result Harry hurts and offends many people around him. As Harry's real life intertwines with the fictional plot of his novel, Harry finds his inspiration starting to dry up. While Harry's life is going to hell in a handbasket, he is invited back to his alma mater to receive an honorary degree, but he can't find a companion to go with him. He has to find a prostitute to accompany him, and the next day his friend Richard comes to accompany him, and on the way he abducts his own son from his ex-wife to go with him. What do the four of them encounter on the way, and what happens when they reach their destination?Harry tries to deconstruct his own real life, the lives of the fictional characters in his novels, and the influence of the fictional characters in his own life. This talented writer, who can't function normally in his own life but can only utilize his talents in his art, is able to deconstruct the “truth” in his own life.
