Squire Nshaw goes out and brings back to Wuthering Heights a gypsy child named Heathcliff (Tom Hardy). The son, Hendry (Burn Gorman), is jealous of his father's favoritism towards Heathcliff and makes fools of him and ridicules him. Mr. Earnshaw is forced to send Hendre, who targets his adopted son at every turn, to boarding school. His daughter, Catherine (Charlotte Riley), has been a childhood friend of Heathcliff's since she was a child, and the two of them develop a deep affection for each other. After the death of Mr. Earnshaw, Hendry returned to Wuthering Heights to inherit his father's business, relegating Heathcliff to the status of a slave and taking extreme revenge. Catherine is forced to marry Edgar (Andrew Lincoln) of Painted Fields. Disillusioned, Heathcliff chooses to leave the country and returns three years later with a vast fortune to exact his revenge. He set up a scheme to take Wuthering Heights, indirectly made Hendry drunk and died, tricked Edgar's sister Isabella and eloped with him to shame Edgar, all of which made Catherine, who was still deeply in love with him, suffered so much that she died in childbirth. Insanity Heathcliff will continue to extend this revenge to the next generation, until he held Catherine's bones to leave the world.
