Based on J.R.R. Tolkien's classic book, the film is set 200 years before the trilogy, and follows the fate of the Helm family, the “Hammerers” of Lord Rohan. When the black barbarian Lord Wulf avenges his father's death by launching an onslaught, Helm and his people are forced to retreat to the ancient fortress of Bugle Keep, which would later be known as “Helm's Deep” (also translated as “Valley of the Sacred Helm”). In the midst of this desperate situation, Helm's daughter, Hera, rises up and begins to lead her people against a deadly enemy that intends to destroy them once and for all.
