Le Ly (Hiep Thi Le) is a Vietnamese girl whose family life remains happy despite the poverty of her home. But with the outbreak of the Vietnam War, disaster is coming her way.During the Vietnam War, Le Ly is captured by government forces for supporting the Vietcong guerrillas and experiences inhumane treatment. Her mother (Chen Chong) bribes someone in the government to get her out, but at this point she is also raped brutally by VC agents who think she has betrayed the guerrillas. Her mother has to take her to work for a rich man, where she falls in love with him and becomes pregnant.They were driven away by the hostess to join her sister, who was a prostitute, but she could not stand her sister's ways and left to live on her own.
