On his way back to a sanatorium in the Alps, Lockhart (Dane DeHaan) is sent to retrieve the CEO of his company, who has been convalescing in a car accident that leaves him with a broken left leg, and he has no choice but to stay there for a while to recover. At the sanatorium, Lockhart befriends a mysterious young woman named Hannah (Mia Goth).The eerie atmosphere of the sanatorium and the succession of scientifically unexplained events surrounding Lockhart begin to cast doubt on the nature of the sanatorium's operations. The flirtatious relationship between Hannah and the attending doctor, Dr. Follmer (Jason Isaacs), makes Lowhart realize that there is more to the story than meets the eye. At last, Lockhart realizes the secret hidden in the sanatorium, and at the same time, his nightmare begins.
