Larry gopnik (Michael Stuhlbarg) is a professor of physics at a university in Minnesota. The university is deciding whether to award him a tenured professorship. Meanwhile, larry's wife, Judith (Sari Lennick), says she is in love with widower Seth aviman (Fred Melamed) and is asking for a divorce. Not only that, larry's jobless neurotic brother Arthur (Richard Kind) becomes an increasing burden, his son's jewish bar festival is approaching, his daughter steals money to have a nose job, and an anonymous letter is about to ruin his future. Beleaguered larry turns to rabbi after rabbi, but will faith help him out?
