When Angela (Emily Watson) and her husband's marriage was not approved by their friends and family because of religious issues. Now they have several children, but life in the United States is not as good as it should be. Poverty and the recent loss of their son, the family decided to move back home to Ireland, in order to pray for a better life there.Things didn't go as smoothly as they thought, and they still encountered the cold shoulder of family and friends in their hometown, and began a new life of hardship. Whenever her husband did not have the courage to do the menial work to carry the burden of the family, it was Angela who took up all the dirty, tiring and humble work without hesitation. Time and again, fate dealt a blow to this strong mother. Her twin children died one after another, her husband went to England to make a living but failed to improve the difficult situation of the family, Angela never gave up to seek help and taught her son Frank (Joe Breen) the dignity of survival, the light of motherhood in Frank's life will never fade.
