The film centers around the work of spy novel author Yeli Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard). While Yeli's novels follow mysterious agent Argyle (Henry Cavill) and his mission to dismantle a global spy ring, the plot of the novels unexpectedly begins to align spectacularly with the covert operations of the real spy organization. Accompanied by Special Agent Aiden (Sam Rockwell), Yeli travels across the world with her cat, Alfie (Chip), in a desperate attempt to defuse the crisis before the spy organization's assassins make their move, and the line between the fictional world of the novel and reality begins to blur. What ensues is an adventure that spans the globe.
