Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara (Geena Davis), a couple who run a hardware store, are very much in love, and although they don't have any children, they pour all their love for each other into dressing up their home. One day the couple was traveling when they were involved in a car accident and both of them perished. The ghosts of the two couples can't bear to leave their home, but they can only watch as their home moves in with a new owner. The Dietz and Charles families remodel the couple's house, and Adam and Barbara try to scare the Dietzes away with haunting tricks that don't work, but are seen by Lydia (Winona Ryder), the Dietzes' eccentric daughter who loves to stay in the dark, and who can hardly be dignified as a ghost. At their wit's end, the couple follow the guidebook of the undead and ask Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), an archmage displaced from the mainstream of the netherworld, to help them reclaim their home. ......
