On a rainy night, rey (John Getz) and Abby (Frances McDormand) have an affair at a hotel. Ray is the bartender, and Abby is the wife of bar owner maddie (Dan Hedaya). Maddie suspected her wife of cheating and hired detective weiss to investigate. Knowing the truth, maddie is so angry that she sneaked into ray's house and tried to kidnap his wife. Maddie met wes and decided to spend the money to get rid of them. Weiss sneaks into ray's house and finds Abby's pistol. After returning, weiss showed maddie pictures of the two men being killed, and took advantage of maddie's surprise and shot him dead. Ray found maddie's body, mistakenly thought that Abby, so destroy the body of the trace. In the evening, rey returns to the bar and discovers weiss's fake photo. At this point, neither ray nor Abby knows that the threat of death is looming...
