Caliendo (Al Pacino) has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for drug trafficking, and in his fifth year in prison, lawyer David (Sean Penn) breaks him out of prison. Caliendo's ambitions upon his release are to make enough $75,000 to get out of here and to pay back the favour he owes David. Determined to clean up his act, Caliendo can't escape the grasp of fate, and when he begrudgingly agrees to his cousin's participation as a bystander in a drug deal, he gets involved in a black-ops scheme. When he keeps the drugs, he receives $25,000 as a reward from the dealer.After Caliendo puts this money into a nightclub called Paradise Paradise, he sets out to find his woman, Kyle. When Caliendo finds Kyle, the relationship swings back and forth in a delicate way. That's when David takes money from a mafia leader who promises to help his partner break out of prison. So, David enlisted the help of Caliendo. Despite Kyle's pleas, in return for a favour, Carlito agrees to go on this dangerous mission ......
