During the Gulf War, Tank Corps Officer Sarin (Denzel Washington) makes an error in judgment and orders the destruction of one of his own tanks, resulting in the accidental death of his best friend, Baldwin. Although a court-martial has exonerated him, he suffers from a pang of conscience and tries to find Baldwin's parents to explain the incident, but never has the courage to do so.In order to honor Salem, his superiors sent him to investigate an incident in the war in which a mechanic died saving a soldier's life. Shalin's investigation reveals that Karen (Meg Ryan), the one who bravely saved the soldier and died heroically, is actually a woman! But several of the soldiers at the scene have contradictory and flawed confessions. After Sarin presses Murphy, one of the soldiers, Murphy turns out to be suicidal. With Murphy's suicide, the truth of the incident slowly emerges ......
