Another Christmas has come and gone, and Frank Harrington (Ray Wise) drives to a relative's house for the vacations with his wife Laura (Lin Shaye), his son Richard (Mick Cain), his daughter Marianne (Alexandra Holden) and his boyfriend Brad (Billy Asher). The night's journey is sleepy and tedious, and Frank has a near-accident. In an extremely depressing situation, he decides to abandon the interstate highway he's been traveling for 20 years and instead run up the back roads he's never traveled.
