Guitarist El (Antonio Banderas) makes a living performing in nightclubs. One day, his girlfriend is gunned down by a local drug lord, and El is shot in the left hand and can no longer play the guitar. So instead of guitars, El's guitar case holds weaponry. He carries his guitar case through street after street in order to avenge his girlfriend's death. The drug lord learns that El is seeking revenge and sends his men to assassinate him. In a moment of crisis, El is saved by the beautiful Carolina (Salma Hayek). The fact that he survived the attack strengthens his resolve to take revenge.
