Focusing on the summer of 1957, the movie tells the saga of Ferrari's battle with Maserati for track supremacy. One morning, the wife of former racing driver Enzo Ferrari receives two phone calls and is told that Jean Bella has just arrived overnight from Milan. Discovering that Ferrari was not at home, his wife Laura was annoyed, as the two had been maintaining a marriage in name only, having agreed that they had to have coffee together every morning on time. When Ferrari learns that Bella has made the trip to Milan to challenge Ferrari's racing record, he calls his friend Moscholini for help. The furious wife shoots Ferrari directly in the face, and she tells him that their company is about to go bankrupt. Their son Dino had died of muscular dystrophy two years earlier. While Ferrari is wallowing in loss and grief at the church and cemetery, Bella is already at the track ready to go. The accidents kept coming and his track buddy, Morsolini, died tragically. Ferrari has no choice but to take on the dangerous Mille Miglia and get the sponsorship money. The Mille Miglia is a grueling race through valleys, woods, meadows, rapids, blizzards and other extreme weather conditions, full of danger, and a fierce life-and-death battle between Ferrari and Maserati. The cars were constantly involved in accidents, and Ferrari was charged with manslaughter in the race accident at Guidodoro, but was eventually acquitted by the court. After Laura's death, Ferrari was officially recognized as the heir to the Ferrari company. Over the next year Ferrari regained the World Championship and his red cars became the most dominant force in world racing.
