T.J (Devin Brochu) is a 13-year-old boy who has just lost his mother in a car accident and has to live with his grandmother because his father can't take the shock and starts getting high all day. Just when T.J. is at his lowest point, an eccentric guy breaks into his grandmother's old house with long, greasy, tattooed, crazy, society-hating hair, claiming his name is Heather (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), and he sticks around. Nicole (Natalie Portman), a neighborhood grocery clerk, cares for T.J from time to time, causing him to develop ambiguous feelings for her, while Nicole and Heather's relationship develops. A normal girl, two “big” and “small” men with their own inner pain, their lives are being changed by each other.
