After being discharged from the Navy, Larry (Tom Hanks) worked diligently at the outlet for over 20 years. He is kind and almost never loses his temper, he is a star worker, customers love him and his boss appreciates him. But the layoff storm still cost him his job. In his spare time he enrolled in college in the local community and quickly made good friends with all kinds of people. There were homeless people and slum kids, all hoping to come here to improve their lives. In a public speaking class, Larry unexpectedly falls in love with his teacher, Mercedes (Julia Roberts). But she's a married woman, and she's focused all her energy on teaching and has no time for her student's adoration. Now, all the difficulties seem to come to Larry ......
