Gabriel Drummer (played by Shia LaBeouf) is a husband, a father, and a Marine. Of course, these identities only existed before the humanistic society was extinct. Now, Gabriel strolls through the post-apocalyptic country, struggling to survive the rigors of a post-apocalyptic world full of danger and sacrifice, along with his best friend Davin Roberts (played by Jai Courtney). At the same time, Gabriel struggles with his own memories: horrific recollections of his experiences in Afghanistan; his beloved wife, Natalie (Kate Mara), and their marriage on the verge of falling apart; and intermittent conversations with the army's psychiatrist, Captain Peyton (Gary Oldman). Surrounded by these memories, anger and remorse drive Gabriel to do everything he knows to recover what he has lost.
