It's the fall of 1964 in Oregon, USA. In order to earn money to complete his career, Glenn Holland, a composer with a big heart, got a job as a music teacher in a high school. He did this as a second best option, and the burden of family life forced him to face reality. On his first day at the school, the poorly grounded students gave him a hard time. Not only were they out of tune when playing their instruments, they had never even heard of the famous classical composer Bach. Holland's confidence was shattered and the principal, Jacob, repeatedly criticized him in kind. When her husband's work is frustrated, his wife, who works as a photographer, patiently counsels and reassures him; and his good friend Bill Meister, a physical education teacher, proves to Holland that it takes selfless love and plenty of time to teach his students, based on his own personal experiences since he started teaching.
