Fischer (Robert Norman) was born into a very traditional Scottish family with a very strict culture, which led to Fischer's entire childhood being spent in repression. Luckily for Fischer, his father Edward (Colin Firth) is playful and uninhibited, and his mother Maria (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) is gentle and kind, and their presence is the only bright spot in Fischer's grey childhood.One day, a woman named Silus (Irène Jacob) arrives in the village, and the spirited Silus soon attracts Fischer's attention.
