Set in 19th-century England, young Oscar (Ralph Fiennes), a missionary with a big heart, embarks on a journey to the Australian outback, where he intends to start his own business and bring the Lord's gifts to as many people as possible. Lucindia (Cate Blanchett) grew up in a wealthy home, where she was clothed and fed, allowing her to retain her beautiful dreams and pure heart, and after inheriting her father's glass factory, she is determined to carry forward the liberating attitude of women's self-reliance and self-improvement.On a ship drifting on the sea, it is these two similar yet very different people who meet. Strong and competitive, the two make a wager in which Oscar must build a glass church and transport it to the mountains inland, with all of Lucindia's possessions at stake. And it is this bold and crazy bet that changes both men's destinies forever.
