Inmate Max, who has been granted an out-of-supervision sentence for advanced pancreatic cancer, spends the last days of his life at home, where he is forced to reach out to his long-estranged daughter, Maxine, and live with his grandson, whom he has never met. The new film from Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke is set in Las Vegas, but instead of focusing on the paper-thin spectacle of the city, the movie focuses on the day-to-day lives of three generations of grandchildren in an ordinary family. British multi-faceted beauty Kate Beckinsale plays a single mother struggling to make ends meet, partnering with Golden Globe Award-winning Best Actor in a Drama Series Brian Cox ("Inheritance") in a saddening and tender father-daughter relationship.
