1,000 feet deep in the South Pacific, the U.S. government discovers a mysterious 300-year-old spacecraft. The authorities immediately form a scientific team of three leading scientists, psychologist Norman Goodman (Dustin Hoffman), biochemist Beth Hapoeling (Sharon Stone) and mathematician Harry Adams (Samuel L. Jackson), to head to the area and investigate. They utilize a high-tech lab boat to travel deep into the area to investigate. They use a high-tech experimental boat to probe deep into the ocean floor. However a huge and grotesque sphere inside the hull of the vessel possesses a powerful magical ability to gain insight into everyone's inner world, and it seems to be able to control everyone's thoughts and behaviors. To make matters worse, an unknown undersea creature also attacks the experimental boat.
