Linemen Tom Witerski (Kevin Bacon) and Maggie (Kathryn Erbe) are an ordinary American couple who live with their son, Jack (Zachary David Cope), and Maggie's sister, Lisa (Illeana Douglas), in a Chicago suburbia, where life is uneventful. Lisa is youthful and sexy, with an air of mystery. At a party, Tom is hypnotized by Lisa, and proceeds to experience a brief and frightening dream. The experience leaves Tom in a state of unease, with strange visions appearing in front of his eyes from time to time, and his life beginning to be surrounded by an eerie atmosphere.
