In an effort to cut through all the conflicting scientific perspectives and prepare for the possibility of fatherhood, Damon Gameau decided to find out what sugar really does for human health. Damon Gameau, an Australian actor and director, has been eating sugar-free food for years, experimenting with an experiment in sugar himself. There was a time when Damon Gameau ate 40 teaspoons of sugar a day for 60 days, which is the average daily sugar intake for a normal person. The sugar content of food itself is generally considered healthy. So while desserts, chocolate, ice cream and soda are unhealthy, fruit juices, granola yogurt and lots of "light" products are not. As the experiment went on, Damon Gameau worked with actors, animators, and special effects artists to examine the "junk" food, discuss the experiment with a panel of medical experts, and come up with a provisional striking result. For example, Stephen Fry presented a fascinating demonstration of the difference between glucose, sucrose, and fructose, and Gameau (or his "nano-version") showed a fascinating journey to pinpoint the location of sugar in his brain. In addition to the experimental content, the film also includes a number of light-hearted interviews, including one with a sugar addict in an aboriginal community and one with a scientist sponsored by the Coca-Cola company.
