In October 1944, in Auschwitz, Poland, Polish and Hungarian Jews working in the incinerator are plotting to riot and destroy it, with a Polish man nicknamed "Hesh" (Steve Buscemi) as the liaison. The Hungarian Jewish doctor Mikalos (Allan Corduner), who has been given special treatment by prison guard Musselfeld (Harvey Keitel) for his outstanding achievements in the field of twin reproduction, does not want to watch the Hungarian Hoffman (David Arquette) muffle a fellow prisoner who has failed to commit suicide with a pillow. He is at odds with him. When the smuggling of gunpowder to an incinerator at a nearby women's prison is revealed, Tina (Mira Sorvino) and Rosa (Natasha Lyonn) are tortured to death. Just as Hoffman is anxiously waiting for the time to riot, he finds a dying young girl in a pile of bodies in the gas chamber. Should he save her? Would it disrupt the riot plan?
