In order to stop the Spanish Governor Montero from killing innocent people, the masked hero Zorro (Anthony Hopkins) suddenly descended from the sky and kidnapped the prisoners who were about to be executed, thus forging a deep hatred with Montero. Subsequently, Montero sent troops to follow Zorro. In the melee, Zorro's wife was killed, his infant daughter was abused, and Zorro was thrown into prison. Twenty years passed in a flash.
