Maxwell (Elden Henson) was born to a murderer and a mentally challenged father, but despite his size, Maxwell's life has been marked by shame and bullying.Kevin (Kieran Culkin) was born sickly but with a brilliant mind. His mother fears that he will be bullied by his peers because of his physique, so she lives a protective life, which inadvertently causes Kevin distress and makes him long for a taste of freedom.
